Dave - No apology required.  If BB 55 is ever republished, just correct the error.  No big deal all these years later!

Suggestion. Perhaps, as a way to raise funds for the Archive, BB 50 ("old" Denver Zephyr) and BB 55 ("new" Denver Zephyr) could be combined into a single deluxe hard cover book and offered for sale to interested BRHS members and rail fans worldwide. Any recent Denver Zephyr material that's appeared since publication of both BBs could be added into the book, such as the photo of my dad and the Exhibition Zephyr at Ashland, NE.  Virtually all the editorial work has been done.  It would be largely a case of redesigning the two BBs into one hardbound book and getting it published.  I'd gladly buy a copy!

And if the BRHS decides to do this, I'd further like to see a couple of paragraphs about and photo of Mr. Schultz as he certainly deserves a lot of recognition for his excellent manuscript. Everyone, enjoy your Sunday afternoon - Louis

Louis,

I apologize for the error - I am dependent upon my author for most of the information in this Bulletin.  I'll pass this along to Mr. Schultz so that he may correct his manuscript.  Thanks!

Dave

Dave - Further to Burlington Bulletin 55 on the "new" Denver Zephyr, there is a factual error on page 94 in the Sidebar section entitled Switching 14th Street.

My father's first name was Marvin, NOT Martin.  Plus, my father NEVER would've been identified in official railroad correspondence as Marvin L. Zadnichek, it would've ALWAYS been M.L. Zadnichek.  Same for Sam Carbone, it would've been S. (I think his middle initial was "L" or "J") Carbone.  Perhaps, someone can check a 1961 Chicago Division Employee Timetable for Sam's middle initial.  I also think Mr. Carbone was a train master in 1961, not an assistant superintendent, but my memory is foggy on that point and I may be mistaken. An Employees Timetable would set us straight on that point., too. Nonetheless, an interesting sidebar on how switching 14th Street was done, often under trying conditions such as heavy snow during the winter.

Sam and his wife Mary were good friends of my dad and mom.  They were occasionally guests in our home for Sunday get-togethers.  As I remember all these years later, Sam and Mary were both very Italian and small in stature, but about the nicest couple you'd ever want to meet. They were always GREAT to me.....

Still going back over and rereading sections of BB 55. Enjoying it immensely. Best Regards - Louis

To Dave Lotz:

Dave, the photo on page 66 of the Denver Zephyr Bulletin brought to mind the Vanishing Vistas color photo from 1974 of the same scene presumably taken the same day by the same photographer at a slightly different angle down at the Chicago 14th Street coach yard and/or Zephyr Pit.

The Lyman E. Cox narrator for the photo, Richard Wilson, correctly identified the Q's observation car as the KCZ- built Silver Terrace even though the car name is not visible as is the case in the page 66 photo.

Just passing along for additional Q fan enjoyment!
