I’m putting together an article for the
Zephyr on the history of the Burlington Route herald, and need your help. The article will also cover -
Official variations of the herald
other Burlington heralds and insignia such as the various monograms used by the company
slogans such as “Everywhere West” and its predecessor “Anywhere West”
the more reputable meanings of “C B & Q” such as “Can’t Borrow And Quit” used during the 1888 Strike
"On time every day, is the Burlington way"
examples of other companies using the initials “C B & Q”
We are all aware of the herald appearing on equipment such as tenders, on timetables, stationery, and maps, and on items such as long service pins and badges, but what about the more unusual uses?
If you can help, please email me off List at
gamlenz@hotmail.com with details or photos of other heralds, variations or unusual examples or uses of the herald, other companies using the initials, other slogans, etc. Full recognition will, of course, be given for the source of any photos used in the
article.
I also want to include examples of the unauthorised misuse of the Burlington Route herald to sell other products, such as the Burlington Broom Company’s adverts. Do you own any items with the Burlington Route herald on them that are not genuine CB&Q items,
such as the Burlington Adder adding machine that appeared recently on eBay? Once again, the source of the photos will be given unless you prefer to remain anonymous!
Thanks for any help or suggestions you can offer.
