 The stencils were made from thin metal. Areas between a's, o's, p's, etc. needed to be supported for obvious reasons. Wire or thin strips of metal were used to bridge between stencil areas for support of the letters. When the stencil was placed against the car side and sprayed, the paint covered the thin metal support and caused the stencil breaks being discussed. I was told that in most cases the painters would touch up the breaks, however if the paint shop was rushed, no touch up was done.  Regards...Jerry Albin
