Ken and all-

The term was “Possum Belly” for the storage box under the floor within the truss rod structure.

You are probably correct that the car was used as a “boarding car” (place for workers to sleep) and may have included upgraded cookstove, icebox, and pantry to fix meals if a separate kitchen facility was not assigned.

In the Waycar Book the 210956 is a match for the drawing of the “boarding car” except the No.2 passenger trucks have been swapped out for No.7 waycar trucks.  There are two CW-8s which match the 45Ft length and a photo of CW8 B&MR 86 has the same underframe reinforcement treatment as the 209365.   The car was either built from the same coach/combine as the CW8s or was rebuilt with more waycar-like windows, siding, roof & cupola from one.

[Attachment(s) from Kenneth Martin included below]

It looks like a boarding car. Different from the drawing with one less window and no clerestory or storage box (basement (terminology?)).

Dave, I'm stumped.  I have no info on this car, link below.  Any leads?

Thanks, Chuck Zeiler
