Rupert,

That's not quite right.  The Q ran them without any window plates and on the Allied Full Cushion trucks, with Railroad Roman "Burlington" and other lettering until about 1952-53.  At that point they plated over the windows and went to the "Ribbon Style" lettering, and changed out many of the trucks.  There are many pictures of the Jeeps without plating.

My understanding is that the windows were plated over in 1947 when the Burlington purchased them, and I haven’t seen any in revenue service without the plates. I presume that the plates were removed when it was downgraded to company service.

Thanks for the link, Rupert. I didn’t know that the Q removed the window plates, or were plates  installed in all car originally? If removed, when did that occur? I have two cars with plates, and I’m looking for more.

There was a query about the use of ex-troop cars being used in company service. There is a photo of 8761 on eBay at http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Slide-CB-Q-Burlington-Mail-Express-Car-8761-At-McCook-NE-1974-/332414142858?hash=item4d656d498a:g:HE8AAOSwKPdZ4-3G with the plates removed from the windows.

I’ve no idea, though, when it was converted. In February 1970, there were still 252 of the original 300 cars still on the passenger car roster.
