Pete, and the group,

    Ii am glad you claimed authorship as it is a good informative piece.  This is one of the main reasons I am on this list as my granddad (L&N STEAM engineer) died in 1958 and I can no longer ask him.  I have learned about this, train operations, freight handling, in its many facets and much more on this list.  I really appreciate posting a question and the great variety of responses.  Thanks to all.

Well I just took time to read what I wrote..It's really pretty good if I do say so myself, but as, again, I said..It all came from old stuff that I read over the years while 'WASTING TIME WITH THAT OLD STUFF WHEN I COULD BE MAKING BETTER USE OF IT.  (Direct quote from my Dad when he caught me reading...not SEX magazines, but RAILROAD STUFF.

 

I think I covered about everything I know.  If anybody else has questions and wants to throw them out or "shoot down" anything I said let's do it.'

Not me...Unless I have had a total memory lapse.  The only thing I know about helpers et cetra is what I have read in the old RAILROAD MAGAZINES.

 

I'll be delighted to find out if something I have written has drawn all this attention and I have completely forgotten about it.
