Those four locos back by the coaling tower don't look like NYC locos to me.  The two on the right are probably C&A's, and the two on the left with the bright graphited smokeboxes look like Rock Island's or maybe Katy's.

Thanks for the correction; I went by what the Denver Public Library description of the photo says, and I'm certainly not knowledgeable on St. Louis railroad facilities myself.  I thought that was a lot of NYC power to be idle at St. Louis at one time.

Hol,

Your comment that the Otto Perry St. Louis photo of CB&Q 2914 departing St. Louis Union Station is a great one is right on!

However, allow me correct a minor point in your description.

The train is passing a New York Central road engine but it is at the TRRA 14th St. Engine Terminal.  Here the Terminal serviced not only their own numerous switch engines, they also serviced the passenger road power for several other foreign railroads using Union Station including the NYC.  In the background is the large TRRA 16th St. Coaling Station which is part of the 14th St. facility.  Great Photo, thanks for posting!!

Best,

Bill Saenger
