 This car was not used as a boiler car on passenger trains but as a temporary boiler for company structures while repairs or replacement of the building's own boiler were carried out.  It was outfitted after the last steam power was retired and steam locomotives were no longer available to serve as temporary providers of steam for heating.  O-5-B 5629 was last used by the railroad as a temporary stationary boiler at Lincoln in 1959 when the passenger depot heating plant was being modernized.

I have found in the "Railway Prototype Cyclopedia" volume 34 Page 55  that the Burlington had convert at least one troop kitchen car to a "boiler car" (Heater Car) #251500 in company service. From the June 1956 picture it appears to be painted Pullman Green at Lincoln, NE.


Does anyone have any information as to where this car used, during what time frame,  internal and external drawing, and its demise.
