Group - Again, Hol is way ahead of me..... THANKS, Hol!

The grain loading hopper might place No. 5001 somewhere in dead storage on Lines West. But, then again, could indeed be St. Joseph, too. Best Regards - Louis

The "Freight Cars Assigned to Special Service as of March 1, 1946" supplement to the Q's "Ownership, Age and Condition of Freight Cars as of January 1, 1946: states that 153 hopper cars in series 189000-189185 and 192600-193039 were equipped with four-hatch temporary roofs for grain loading in 1945.  The car in the photo you have found is 189107.  And as the 189000 series cars were built in 1945, a number of them may well have come from Havelock with those roofs when new.  I've seen a couple of other photos similar to this one that don't show the whole car but do confirm the existence of the roofs.  Once enough new covered hoppers were completed in the early postwar years, the temporary covers were removed, and apparently all were gone by 1950.

The following link is to a photo of CB&Q #5001 but there is a hopper with a cover on it in the background which is interesting.
