Hi everyone!!
So this might sound like a 'pipe dream', but it would sure be nice to see if the BNSF would help preserve a second generation ex-CB&Q locomotive.
Here's my thoughts... While looking at my October-November-December 1968 issue #40 of the Burlington Bulletin, employee magazine, on the cover is CB&Q GP40 #629 (along with SD7 #403), going through the new wash rack at Lincoln, Nebraska. The significance of this GP40, is that is wearing the experimental pre-BN Cascade Green. This preceded the SD45s by a year, or so. Anyhow, the 629 still soldiers on as BNSF #3006. Wouldn't it be nice to see if the BNSF could repaint the locomotive back to her green and white, restore the gyralite, and eventually donate the unit (IRM) to preserve a piece of 'Q' history.
Just a thought....
