Hol - Washburn, IA, is on the RI. There was a bad passenger train wreck
there 10 years later:
May be the stereo image shows an awful passenger train wreck on the SP
at Newman, CA, in July 1899. I've read elsewhere that there were Burlington
coaches out of Denver included in the train that were taking teachers to
the convention in Los Angeles.
Washburn, CA, today is an unincorporated area near California City,
CA. May be Rupert can further research on the Internet.
Where ever this wreck happened, the passengers didn't have much of a
chance in the telescoped wooden coaches. Best Regards - Louis

The attached stereo image is currently for sale on eBay, identified as
Burlington Wreck at Washburn, May 27,1899, though in the header the seller
says Washburn, Iowa. First, the coach closest to the photographer is
definitely a CB&Q car, so we can assume it is in fact a Burlington
accident, and a pretty nasty one. But Washburn, Iowa, is not on the
Q. Nor is Washburn, Wis. Any other Washburns it might be?
Obviously, it's not Washburn, Texas, on the FW&D. With the precise
date of the accident, we ought to be able to find news reports of it fairly
easily, but I haven't taken the time to do that.
