Sorry about that Dave, I hate auto check.  It should say "when the hand set button was released."

Here's a very short version of the story. Izzy would make a less than complimentary remark About the dispatcher after responding to the dispatchers transmission as to what was going to transpire next. For example "82 you're going in the siding at Shabbona for 97".

He did this for almost every single radio message from any dispatcher. The dispatchers who dead headed on the same dinkies as the crews and also visited the same refreshment establishments as the crews in Aurora eventually learned of Izzys' habit. At the next opportunity a certain dispatcher, after completing a radio exchange w/ Izzy immediately came back with "what was that Izzy?" And Izzy assumed the button on the hand set had stuck and everyone heard his comment about the dispatchers abilities. 

To my recollection the incident did not break him of the habit.

If I am correct, wasn't there a discussion at one time on this list that identified who the engineer was in the cab of GP30 949 when the publicity photo was taken that was used on the cover of the 1962 CB&Q Annual Report and Diesels West?  I tried seaching the conversations, but came up empty.

 

If not, does anyone here know who that was?
