Hol/Pete - So, the image is indeed the roundhouse at Red Oak, IA, but on Lines East, not West. A neat little five stall wood roundhouse for a branch line terminal. Hol, thank you for ID'ing. Best Regards - Louis

Pete, I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one.  I'm attaching a scan of a rather dark color slide Bernard Corbin shot of the roundhouse in the mid-1950s.  I've lightened it was much as I can without completely losing the exhaust jacks.  As you can see, all the details match the photo Louis posted, down to the number six on the mechanism above the turntable's Armstrong lever, the electric light between the third and fourth doors and the ladder attached to the right (north) side.  In the slide, the area doesn't look so rural, as houses are visible at the right.

It is not Red Oak..Too rural.  Looking at the RO RH from in front you would see a "downtown" aspect.

If it's some other RR I am "out of the running" as far as ID'ing the location.

If not, then maybe this roundhouse, too, is C&NW/Omaha Road like the other one turned out to be. It does look a little "run down" to be Q.

It doesn't look like a B&MR RH since those, IIRC had a higher sloped roof...The scene behind the RH looks like a depot in the background.  I'll take a wild guess and say St. Francis or Oberlin KS. If this is the case the view looks toward the northeast. 

After my recent move I'm in the process of re organizing my books and magazines...it's even slower than it should be since I find that I "have to" stop and read everything..Amongst my "stuff" are Holck's and Kistler's books, both of which discuss these Orleans NE branches into Kansas..Maybe I'll get an "AH HA" moment.  

Should that happen I'll let you guys be the first to know.....Of course there is a possibility that this may be a "Non Q" RH as in the case of the previous mystery RH.  I will say it doesn't look like any other Q RH  that I have seen.  

Disclaimer...As distressing as it may seem...I must say that I HAVE NOT seen every Q RH...which takes me out of the "Expert" category...however any previous membership[ in said category which might have been claimed or assumed is QUITE TENUOUS.

Group - Hot on the heels of Hol's mystery roundhouse, I've inserted/attached an image of another unidentified roundhouse that I think could be Q and, perhaps, was somewhere in Nebraska:

 

 

The wood roundhouse has five stalls and rectangular smoke jacks. It looks like the stall at far left has its smoke jack in the rear, but the stall next to it has smoke jacks at both front and rear. The turntable bridge is "arm strong" powered and its pit is stone lined. The roundhouse color might be a faded mineral red.  

 

The dilapidated roundhouse looks unused in the image, but there appears to be a pile of kindling wood on the left side used to light-off the coal in steam locomotive fireboxes. If Q, this roundhouse is most likely at the junction of several branch lines. Just the right size for Class H, K, R and P locomotives.

 

Can any Lines Westerner confirm that this was a Q roundhouse and if so where it was located? Looks like it would make a nice modeling project. Best Regards - Louis
