It was George Green, pres & chair, of
The Pullman Co who developed the
pull-push concept for The CNW.

They gave him free locomotives along
track time and crews to test and refine
the idea. The other major factor was
The CNW buying all of their galley cars,
including inter-city services in Wiscon-
sin and The UP, from P-S. Further, it
was eazy for The MILW and ROCK IS-
LAND to sign because of P-S supply-
ing their galley cars.

George was a very clever and shred ME while be a sharp mgr.

Always enjoyed visiting w/him long into
his retirement. He helped put together
Freight Car America from remains of
P-S.

Fyi, Pat

Subject: [CBQ] Re: Commuter push-pull

I know this thread is 4 years old but how come the Burlington which was ahead of the other RRD's in their modernization of their commuter lines have push-pull service till later on?

C&NW and MD had that as soon as they modernized their fleet.

Also how did those green engine ended up remaining till the early 90's?

Must have been confusing to younger people who weren't around when the Burlington and the other lines were privately owned.
