The early structure was significantly modified or replaced according to the photo in the Quincy book. The 1940s to early 1950 sand drying house was smaller perhaps 14 ft. wide since it was narrower than the coal pocket, and the coal pocket was 16 ft. wide between the tracks according to plans of the coal pocket at Western yard. The Burlington was built to that specification except with only three bins instead of six. Photos of the BN era sand house show further modifications with removal of the upper sand bin and addition of a gable roof.

I don’t know if the same structure survived until the 50’s but there were plans of the Burlington Sand House in an 1887 trade magazine and in a 1893 Buildings & Structures book.
