In Germany, during this time period,when they came out with a new locomotive,they were painted a certain shade of grey, so that there would be contrasts and details could be picked out when photos were made of it. (Unfortunately, when models where made of them, sometimes that grey color of the prototype would be the one they would use for all engines, even though it was only the one that was really that color. Modelers scream when someone like Maerklin does stupid things like this). I am sure if a technique of photographing cars for a car company's catalog was done in Germany, it was done in the US as well. Could this car have been a prototype car, or one that was picked out, and painted different so it could get its official photograph?
