Subject: [CBQ] Silver Veranda back in service on BNSF private business train
It is great to see photos on a couple of internet websites of former CB&Q "Denver "Vista Dome Parlor Buffet Observation Lounge Car "Silver Veranda" on the road to the Super Bowl 50 after a refurbish job at the BNSF Topeka Shops.
The BNSF forces let "Silver Veranda" keep her original skirts and gave a new name to the car "Canyon View". While it will always be "Silver Veranda" to me, I am just grateful the car is in good hands and hitting the road again. Unfortunately sister car "Silver Chateau" received minor wreck damage in the 1980s and was scrapped in Indianapolis.
Built in 1956, "Silver Veranda" along with "Silver Buckle" and "Silver Brand" are three of the four last remaining Vista Domes built for the Denver Zephyr. Silver Cup is reported scrapped and Silver Kettle may be intact still as property of VIA Rail Canada. Any updates from members is appreciated.
