All-
I have posted to the Photo Album two A.W. Johnson pictures of CB&Q O-1-A #4989 which I believe were both taken on 8-31-24. The one with Waycar 14698 at Congress Park and the other at Brookfield (probably just east of the Maple Avenue crossing).

In 1923 the ever-frugal Q was planning to increase the water capacity of a number of its O-3 and M-2/M-2-A engines by lengthening their tenders, so it had Baldwin deliver new O-1-A Mikes 4940-4999 with tender underframes long enough to fit the lengthened tenders of the O-3s and M-2 engines. The underframes were then swapped out as the lengthening was completed. Which means most of the 4900s ran for at least a short time with the back porch tenders, and I'd love to find a photo showing that. Charlie Vlk, didn't you once tell me you had found such a photo? Attached is the builder's photo of 4942, confirming that it, like 4994, came from Baldwin with the long underframe tender.

A builders photo of 2-8-2 Class O-1-A 4994 shows an extended frame on the tender resulting in a back porch. What was the purpose of the porch? See the photo at the address below.
