Karl - 6324's headlight bracket is so covered-up in my garage
that it would be a major job to photograph it. Instead, I'm attaching a
not-so-great image of the headlight and bracket when I first obtained it some 50
years ago. Those are a set of green flags on either side. Someday I'll
eventually reunite the headlight and its bracket in my den. There is no brass
number plate on the bracket, the plate having been sacrificed for a World War
Two scrap drive. I'm told this was commonplace with Q steam locomotives, one
reason why you see so few Q brass number plates. Best Regards -
Louis

Karl - As promised, attached are two images of my O-5-A bells. The 001
image shows the bell off of 5615 and the 002 image shows the bell from 5624.
Both 4-8-4s were scrapped at NWS&W. I'll have to take some images of the
headlight and bracket off 6324. Will send Monday or Tuesday. I have
the headlight in my den with the bells, but the bracket is so large it's in
the garage and I'll have to clean out some of the boxes around it to get
a good shot. It would be interesting to know who else in this Group has Q
steam engine or diesel hardware they'd like to tell us about, particularly how
they acquired it. Enjoy your Sunday - Louis

Karl - Your M-4-A bell is a long ways from
Breardstown/Centralia/Galesburg mounted out there in your California garden!
It looks just like my two O-5-A bells. I'll trade you some images of mine
over the weekend if I don't get side tracked.... I'm attaching another image
of 6324, this time taken at Centralia, IL, in May of 1952. Just think, some
10 years later NWS&W had turned this magnificent machine into nails!
Best Regards - Louis

November 4, 2015 Karl - Our Dads certainly
would've known each other as Q officials. I well remember the Choo-Choo
Specials. That's a good subject for a future article in the BRHS
Bulletin. So the front mount bell off Class M-4-A No. 6324 ended-up with
your Dad while the winged Pyle National headlight with its heavy
smoke box mounting bracket ended-up with my Dad. Small world it is.... Did
you pick-up the bell at Eola? That's where Dad and I took possession of
the headlight. Plus, with your bell, is the road number deeply cut
into the top to identify it during shoppings? I also have front mount
bells off Class O-5-A locomotives 5615 and 5624 and their road numbers are
cut deeply into the bell tops. Both my bells are blocked-up on
the carpet in my den and they will ring, but they're really LOUD like
your's in the backyard. It would be nice if someday your bell and my
headlight could be reunited. Wonder what happened to the whistle? I'm
attaching a color image of 6324 taken on May 16, 1955 in Centralia, IL,
near the end of its service life. You can clearly see your bell and my
headlight on the locomotive. May be the Mars light ended-up on an
ex-GTW 0-8-0 at NWS&W. Thanks for reaching out to me. Best
Regards - Louis

Burlington from 45-66. Ended his career as gen passenger
manager. He was also over the choo-choo steam excursions
with the last two units. You know the ones. Anyway, he
wound up with the engine bell from the 6324 which we had
in our backyard when I was a kid and is mounted in my backyard
for my kids today. I noticed that you had a few parts
from the 6324 as well. Neither of us would probably ever
want to part with these jems but it sure would've been cool if
they were in the same place again. Anyway nice to know those parts are
still out there.
