Charlie, Michael and All - A little late in replying. Had a bad electrical storm here late Friday afternoon and my Internet access was knocked out until this morning. Yes, EMC constructed SW1 9138 and her sister units in the 1939 order. I should've said that in the beginning. All in all, a very successful and long lasting locomotive design if you ask me. Let's hope 9138 and any other surviving sisters all eventually find a good retirement home in a railroad museum. Best Regards - Louis

No hair to split......I didn't say EMD built the units.....I said the info was from the 1955 EMD Locomotive Reference Book.  I am sure that Louis knows the genealogy of Electromotive as well and was just making a general reference.

And not to split hairs, but in 6/39, it was still EMC, not EMD.

Louis-

According to the 1955 EMD Locomotive Reference Book SW1 9138 was built on order no. E259 with 9136-9140 and were delivered in June of 1939.

Hol - Can you confirm the history of 9138? Was it constructed by EMD for the CB&Q or FW&D?  Amazing that the 76-year-old locomotive is still putting in a day's work at a cement mill. Do you think the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden would be interested in adding the SW1 to their collection? One of these days, sooner or later, 9138 will fail and end-up being scrapped. This elderly CB&Q switcher is certainly worthy of preservation. Best Regards - Louis
