I'll have to concede Norm...I just don't understand what you are talking about, so I'll quit.

Pete, we're talking at cross purposes.  You're talking about passenger service, I'm talking about the track.  Norm

Sorry Norm, but the route was...NEBRASKA CITY  south through Peru, Brownville, Nemaha, then west through  Auburn, Johnson, Tecumseh, Tecumseh Jct, Crab Orchard, Filley, Rockford, Beatrice, DeWitt,Tobias, Strang, Edgar, Blue Hill, Bladen, Campbell, Upland, Hildreth, Wilcox, Sacramento, Holdrege, Thence west via Curtis...Wallace...Venango,NE, Amhurst, CO, Holyoke, CO....Sterling CO....Logan, Stoneham Keota, Grover, Hereford, Arcola..Camp Stool Altvan CHEYENNE, WY

You could do this continuously via BRANCH LINE RAILS until the very early 1940's when the line between Tecumseh Jct and Beatrice.
was abandoned.

This route never ran on a main line or through Lincoln...except for 1 and 1/2 miles from Tecumseh to Tecumseh Jct and  from Beatrice to DeWitt which was always part of the original route.

You just can't fool an old "timetable reader" and Wymore Division trainman.

Pete

Pete, no, the east end was at Nemaha.  Nebraska City was on the east end of a  branch from Lincoln,  your suggestion would then require the main from Lincoln to Holdrege, then back on the Nemaha to Cheyenne line.  Norm Metcalf, Boulder Colorado

Actually the line began in Nebraska City, NE.   You could, at one time..get on a train at Nebraska City...travel to Holdrege, NE....travel to Sterling, CO and thence to Cheyenne, WY.  Check the old...pre 1940 passenger timetables.

You meant Sterling CO to Cheyenne WY.  It was the west end of the line beginning in Nemaha NE.  Norm Metcalf, Boulder Colorado

Ken - I enjoyed reading about Q 719 now on display in Alliance. I've attached an image of the 4-6-0 type when numbered 919 on the Sterling, NE, to Cheyenne, WY, branch. It was powering a mixed freight at Alvan, WY, in July 1956. The locomotive would've been age 53 and was still producing revenue ton miles for the Q. Hopefully, funds can be raised to put a shelter over 719 to protect it from the elements. Best Regards - Louis

A friend recently sent me a copy of this article on CB&Q 719 that was published in the Alliance, NE, Times-Herald on April 14, 2015. I don't recall having seen it mentioned in this forum, so thought I would pass it along.

Best regards,
