These beasts were very MUCH a part of the C&I landscape in the late 60's and the early 70's, much to my dismay and discontent !! While once great pullers these units suffered badly from time. Near the end of their careers the 24's were greater liabilities than assets in a consist. Arguably the BEST riding freight engine's ever built, their final curtain call produced far less excitement than their stellar performance of earlier times.
