Ken,

I’m pretty sure the trucks were changed in later years as they were shopped, so if you model late 1940 or early 1950s, you would need photos of your road number to see what trucks they had. I built the Westerfield kits for these cars, and my notes show that XM-22 cars got Andrews trucks, and XM-23 cars came with Andrews instead of T-section. Apparently, sources differ on that. I have no notes on when or if XM-21 cars got Andrews trucks. I suspect the survivors in my era would be in company service, so they could have retained T-section trucks. I’ve chosen to model XM-21 cars with T-section, and use Andrews for my XM-22 and XM-23 cars. Now that I have the 1953 ORER, I need to determine how many of these classes were still running in 1953.

Thanks, Nelson. I'm glad you mentioned the T-section trucks. They're not super obvious in the photos in the magazine article, but when I look closely I can see them.

Can anyone tell me the number series for Burlington's XM-22 and XM-23 box cars? There is an article about these cars in the May 1988 issue of Model Railroading, but it says the XM-23 cars were in the number series 132251-13399, but I suspect this may be a typo since  the first number in the series has 6 digits but the last only 5.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
