It was the fall after my first summer (1956) as a trainman on the Lincoln Division  I was just starting my Junior year at UNL...I well remember going down to the depot...(now "LINCOLN STATION)" and "touring" the new equipment.

I also have distinct memories....I am not making this up....of thinking..."Why is the Burlington doing this and spending all this money on new equipment for passenger trains when those trains are clearly on the way out???

This was only a relatively short time...about a year and a half IIRC that the infamous piece  "WHO SHOT THE PASSENGER TRAIN" appeared in TRAINS...I think it was sometime in 1959.

Nice photo of EMD E5A, 9915B in front of Creston depot. From the Kenny Petznick photo collection. Shared with permission. Questions I have are: 1) All photos I'm finding of 9915B show it with red stripes on the nose. Were the stripes orginally black? If so, when were they painted red? 2) Was this a rail fan excursion trip? Anyone know any other details of this tour? 3) We are trying come close on a date for the photo. We do know it's post Korean War because the copper awnings were removed from the Creston depot during the war for the metal. Anyone know the date of the excursion?  Thanks and enjoy!  Art Lischer
