Thanks, Charlie. I knew locomotives built in the early years of the 20th century often had olive or other non-black boiler jackets (and of course Russia Iron a little earlier). My question was whether non-black was used on the Q as late as the 1930s. I have pictures on a color calendar somewhere (can't recall whether it was an old Sundance calendar one or one from the Colorado RR Museum) showing one or two D&RGW engines with green boilers that late.
