I did a Google search and came up with this interactive book. It shows several illustrations including what appears to be loading ramps on railway trucks. Could it be that they rolled in ramps on rail cars, then moved on to the next location? What an unusual model that would be!

If you type in Carroll's patent beat dump in your search engine, you'll find all kinds of information including where they were located.  No pictures though.
