Jonathan, Hol and other D-Bill lovers - I thought I'd contribute some
images from my digital archive to show other Group members just exactly what a
CB&Q Class D 2-8-0 looked like so they can visually compare against the
C&S 2-8-0's. Again, I'm both inserting and attaching the images. Will take
several posts to do all this due to the number of images I'm going to
share:
CB&Q Class D-4-A No. 3170 at Red Oak, IA, on April 14, 1940. Dead in
train in route to Eola, IL, for scrapping. The Corbin book notes 3170 was
retired in May 1940.
CB&Q Class D-4-A No. 3116 awaiting scrapping at Eola, IL, in July
1934. The locomotive had been originally constructed for the H&StJ. The
Corbin book notes the locomotive was retired in November 1933.
The Class D 2-8-0's were not particularly attractive looking steam
locomotives. I agree with Hol and Jonathan that it certainly looks possible
to have easily converted them to heavy 0-8-0 switch engines. Best
Regards - Louis
