A belated & brief review (belated because as of 2 days ago, only 3 copies remained unsold as the print run is nearly all for 'subscribers' i.e. past buyers.  So this goes to the few of you who did not buy one last yr or bought it from a 3rd party rather than direct from milepost206.com or Box 543, West Burlignton, IA 52655.

As usual (kind of like a Rolls-Royce) the paper stock, printing process and photo work is the best trechnology AND the subjects are unlike most RR calendars.  It's hard to say which year has been the best but in my opinion the cover pic is one of the 2 or 3 best RR photos I have seen ever regardless of RR.  A top photo (think of Trains magazine contests or National Geographic) are the result of a pro or semi-pro with A-1 equipment, Kodachrome and LUCK.  In this case, the late Lou Schmitz found E-bd mailtrain #14 passing a Q stock extra in Red Oak.  Can you guess which of his best railfan friends is seen in one corner of the photo?  But the lighting was the luck - yes, a sunny day with puffy white clouds.  In this case one of those rare days where clouds do surround the sun but it peeks thru an opening creating a spotlight effect - wow!  You get 2 homebuilt Q waycars, chinese red wood & silver steel, a string of reblt. troop kitchen cars and old wood stock cars.  For the modeler, one of the stock cars must have recently been damaged as trhe new wood door is unpainted and the b/w herald is placed up against the roof sill.  Anyway, it's a photo one would buy if the print were available and not worry about the price - ti's that good.  (also a Q section car shed in background, etc)  The other photos are 9's & 10's as usual, a mix of vintage duotone steam & bright color, Photographers include Arch Hayden, Ray Burhmaster, Phil Weibler & Bob Stanage

& include a 1920's or 30's truck mlutned Quickway crane, Mow Train with laundry strung the length, interior of a Galesburg Rd Hse, the Adiar, IA depot 100 yrs ago, etc etc.  I could go on but ask anyone who buys these calendars annually - they never stop.  Where Randy finds all these photos is remarkable as all are unpublished.   Gerald
