Hol - You said in an earlier posting that the C&S never used lignite for engine fuel, except perhaps in an emergency. Looking at the 1935 list of assignments, I see that practically all steam engines on the Alliance Division burned either lignite or oil, so presumably 530's conversion from bituminous to lignite must have been one of those change-the-grate-inside-the-smokebox modifications after it arrived. And since lignite was standard coal in that division, perhaps they saw no urgency about noting that on a leased engine which never would venture far from the yard.
