Time for another old image. Can any one in this Group identify the location
of this engine shed on Lines West (or possibly C&S), or even date the
image as well?
The image (inserted and attached) shows three Class M-2-A locomotives, left
to right the 6170 (last M-2-A constructed), 6145 and unknown. They all are
spotted in front of a shed with a peaked roof, not a roundhouse. The 6170 has a
yellow square at the far end of its coal bunker signifying it was a lignite
burner. Plus, it and its two sisters all have extended smoke boxes for burning
lignite coal.
The lignite burning M-2-A locomotives with Elesco feed water heaters
mounted a top their extended smoke boxes were to me by far the most homely of Q
steam power. But, they did give an impression of brute power in their era of
drag freights. Best Regards - Louis
