Duncan, Someone kindly sent me this image, which you will find instructive. I don’t have any information about when or where the photo was taken, but the calibration date is clearly shown to be 8-6-68 , which accounts for the safety yellow and red paint. This picture doesn’t address your question about earlier paint schemes, but it’s the only color picture I’ve ever seen. BB#27 has an article on scale test cars and scale houses. Page 62 states “It appears that the car was painted black when it was built, though most other company service equipment was mineral red when (except heavy equipment such as wreckers, pile drivers, and rotary snowplows). Q scale test cars were definitely painted black by the time the first Southwark cart was delivered in 1936.” Nelson Moyer From: CBQ@yahoogroups.com [mailto:CBQ@yahoogroups.com] Sent: Tuesday, December 23, 2014 12:34 PM To: CBQ@yahoogroups.com Subject: [CBQ] scale test cars
I've got one of the Walthers scale test cars that I'd like to paint for the CB&Q. The one image I've found of a similar car looks as though it would be mineral red (though it's hard to tell in a b/w photo). I'm curious about both the color and any decald people would suggest to do one of these cars. Duncan Cameron
