The Eastbound indeed left the CHI-DEN mainline at Ashland and the westbound at Oreapolis and they were supposed to meet somewhere between Lincoln and Omaha.  However, a number of times when I rode the train during the summer, they met at Omaha.  One time, riding the westbound train, we left Omaha just as the eastbound arrived, which was disappointing for me because I was trying to catch the name of the other observation car (our train had the Silver Chateau).  I ultimately learned that car was named Silver Veranda when I rode the train eastbound the next Christmas.

I did not see where there has been a reply to your question, so I will give you an answer based on what the timetables say, as well as my experience riding the DZ.

I checked the public timetables going back to 1959, and if #1 and #10 were both on time, they would have always met at Omaha, or between Omaha and Ashland.  I believe there was a brief period in the mid to late 60's where they might have met between Omaha and Plattsmouth.  Both Denver Zephyrs operated Pacific Jct via Plattsmouth to Oreapolis to Omaha to Ashland to Lincoln.

I never rode #10 out of Lincoln, but I rode #1 into Lincoln 6 or 8 times in the late 60's, when going back to school.  This was always at Thanksgiving, Christmas or Spring break, so we would have been on the November to April timetable.  I always sat in the dome and remember meeting #10 on most of these trips.  I recall one meet at Bellevue, one at Omaha station, three at Ralston, and one at Melia.  I specifically remember the meets at Ralston, because we always took the siding despite running up hill westbound.  I don't know if that was normal, we just arrived first.

Two other locations that could have had somewhat frequent meets between these two trains were South Omaha and Chalco.

My opinion is that the meet at Melia was a rarety, because it would have probably meant that #10 was tardy, or more tardy, than #1.  I regularly saw #10 go east in the late 60's from my dorm window at 14th Street in Lincoln (I studied way after midnight), and I have to say from my recollection that #10 was very punctual.  It was rare to see this train leave Lincoln after 12:30AM, in spite of the fact that it had a 7 hour schedule (about 70 mph average) from Denver.  I saw #1 less (I usually wasn't up that late), as it would arrive after 2 AM, but those times would have confirmed a meet near Omaha.

Subject: [CBQ] Where Did the Denver Zephyrs Meet?

Looking at some DZ information (but not the actual timetable), it looks like the eastbound leaving Lincoln at 1211 AM would meet the westbound leaving Omaha at 1240 AM somewhere just west of Omaha.  I'm assuming the eastbound came off the main Chi-Den main at Ashland and the westbound left the main at Oreapolis.  Or did the eastbound leave the main at Oreapolis too?

Did the trains meet and if so, where?  I do see a couple of sidings in western and to the west of Omaha.

Thanks
