Doug,

For The time period you are recalling,all the mainline passenger jobs were held by Aurora Div men on the Galesburg zone(lodge) roster because(apparently) Aurora lodge proper men didn't want the jobs. The last Aurora Lodge man I recall working mainline,passenger was Tinnie Beri, who was #1 on the Aurora roster. When he gave up flagman on 5/6 and went on a dinky that was the last Aurora based man I am aware,worked mainline passenger regularly. Sure was nice when he held 5/6 as he would do the Aurora step off eastbound with you.
I suspect the Aurora lodge protected the mainline vacancies because the Aurora lodge at Galesburg probably didn't have any men qualified on passenger. Recall the Aurora men at Galesburg had the Galesburg step off, so they worked one day on and one day off. Not much need to layoff on that schedule.

I don't have the details as to when the Aurora seniority men set up a separate lodge at Galesburg but I think it had to do with changing the supply point of the mainline pool. Way back in history men used to work Aurora-Galesburg,Aurora-Hawthorne,Cicero,western Ave and Aurora-Forreston.

Thanks Leo. Do you know how the mainline passenger turns wound up all Aurora snuffy? It was odd that we protected them extra but all the bid spots were Galesburg

I do recall the mileage runoff on the around the horn job by engine men.

there were two turns on the around the horn job. If #1 had to leave the job for the mileage offset I don't recall where he went but you could be right about the Fox as I recall Gene Benoit on the Earlville for awhile and thought that odd.

Bud Linroth can answer why the trainman didn't balance the miles. We discussed it once but I can't recall what he said.


Another area where inter divisional miles were a daily event was the mainline passenger jobs. On these runs the lodges and gen committee set the jobs up so that enough positions were filled by each division to represent the miles run on their division.
