Is there any other way to find out what steam assignments were for this branch?

A bit of interesting trivia in that regard. The very last Pacific on the CB&Q (S-1-A number 2863) survived as a switcher on the transfer run between Ferry and Sioux City, because diesels were too heavy for the bridge across the Missouri River. It lasted until 1955.

That run, the "pinger," also was the final hurrah for the Q's consolidations. The very last one, D-4-A number 3119) ran out its days there and was retired in 1946.

If you are modeling in HO, the differences between the S-1 and S-2 Pacifics are small enough so that you could make a plausible case redetailing the old LMB import (if you can find one). As for the consolidation… well... if you figure anything out, please let us know!!

Happy modeling,

Jonathan Harris

Can anyone tell me what would have been the typical steam power on the Ashland - Ferry (South Sioux City) line during the 40's & 50's.  Is there a motive power assignment sheet somewhere?
