Hi Leo and Fellow C&I Modelers,
I have a few more questions about Savanna. A few years ago I rail fanned the C&I but not for trains. I was getting pictures of industries, bridges, signals and track alignments. I see enough trains at work so it was refreshing to shoot something different.
1. At Savanna what trains stopped to set out and pick up cars? Did they do block swapping?
2. What industries did the Q switch?
3. Was there any interchanging done with the Milwaukee Road?
4. When was the roundhouse torn down, size of turntable and location of yard office?
I’ve been thinking of how to get the slop of the yard so I can kick cars. I have some ideas of how to stop them. Just need to do it.
Thanks,
Randy Doman
“Another C&I Modeler"
Jonathan and fellow C&I Modelers,
A few years back a slide (of what my memory seems to recall as the Oregon "Q" switcher) in nearly the same location but taken from a location a bit further east looking west came up for auction. I believe the slide was being sold by WM Mike (Mike Sosalla) on E-bay. It had a clear shot of the Oregon switcher on the "city job" track with the pot signal just off to the left of the engine. I dropped out of the bidding somewhere around $30.00. After the auction I wrote and asked if Mike could share who bought the slide. He had no record of the auction winner once the slide was mailed. No duplicate copy either. Perhaps someone in this group bought the slide and would be willing to share it with fellow C&I modelers in the group.

I just uploaded not a very good photo which shows the switcher stationed at the east end of the Oregon yard as a Great Northern passenger train passes through (June, 1962).
