The M&StL group has done several CD projects, similar to Nelson's suggestion for the CBQ Data sheets. The approach the M&StL group took was: once an idea was announced 1) have a point person with several helpers. This team did the majority of the scanning, to ensure quality control. Email and snail mail keep us informed and supplied with material. Members of the group were solicited for contributions. Our point person did the physical working of copying the CD's preparing artwork for jewel cases and then assembled and mailing. 2) we announced and solicited "sales" of the CD to the M&StL Yahoo list, with a target of 90-100 CD's requested before production began. We set a deadline, anyone who missed the deadline, missed getting the CD. 3) if we had extra room on the CD when the subject material was compiled, we added bonus material (some solicited some not). 4) we sold the CD's for $7-10, labor was free we purchased blank CD's and jewel cases in bulk. Proceeds when to a specific M&StL related reservation project announced at the beginning of the project. We have done this 3 times with great success. I know Nelson, would be willing to assist him. I have many of the Data sheets, but not all. Doug Harding www.iowacentralrr.org |
