That happens to be a photo I took, and it appeared in Burlington Bulletin No. 7
on the XM-32 boxcars back in the first quarter of 1983. The caption explains:
"An undetermined number of cars were repainted in the BN scheme after the
merger but before a renumbering plan was complete. CB&Q 62588, done at
Havelock in July 1970 and seen at Denver late in 1971, shows the improbable
result. This car eventually became BN 123588."

I've never seen any like this. C&S and FW&D for sure, since they were not
initially fully merged, but not CB&Q. Note the 7-70 Havelock shop date. That's
well after the March 2 BN creation date, perhaps someone in the paint shop
didn't get all the memos, or maybe just wasn't too keen on the loss of the Q
image.
