According to th 1972 BN Annual (which also contains a Hol Wagner photo of the engine in BN paint), the locomotive was sold to Naporano Iron & Metal on April 12, 1972. The photo caption says that it was the only E7 ever painted for BN. Can anyone on the list provide Jeff more information about this unit and the results of the synthetic fuel application? Thanks! This locomotive was the first diesel in the US ever run on synthetic diesel fuel from the Bureau of Mines plant at Louisiana, MO back in 1949. I’d like to know what ever happened to it. According to a roster I found online it was built by EMD in March, 1949 and would have been almost brand new when it was run on synthetic fuel in May of 1949. It made it to the BN era and was renumbered BN 9920. That’s all I can find. Can you use your contacts to see what else is known about this locomotive? It was highly historic.
