One Edward Bennett photo (~1913) apparently was shot underneath the Jackson St. bridge looking NE towards the Adams St. bridge. This location on the "quay" on the W side of the Chicago River was the location where the present Union Station was built (completed 1925). (This is the "CB&Q link" for this discussion group.) Question: in the photo, there appears to be a PRR boxcar / express car on the left (the markings certainly indicate the PRR). Do you think it is a RR car, although the web site says "On a viaduct abutment, left, is the word "Pennsylvania" referring to the major rail line." ? http://collections.lakeforest.edu/items/show/2031 http://collections.lakeforest.edu/items/show/2031 The photos along the Chicago River in the downtown area are fascinating, even if there are only small glimpses of RR equipment and facilities. (files .../show/200x to about 2040) Has anyone figured out how to "browse" this collection? All I have been able to do is change the URL file number - "guessing" at appropriate numbers.
