FWIW...That January was one..if not THE coldest of Januarys in my memory...I was a RI Trainmaster at Joliet that month...Fighting frozen suburban cars and failed engines for several weeks at that period...Down at Joliet UD....all night every night....for about two week stretch...Weather forecast would be something like....Low tonight 25 below...high 5 below.
I don't know when I've had that much fun for so long.....Hopefully I'll never have to do it again.

That was a Railroad Club of Chicago trip run in the snow on January 27, 1962 to Sterling, IL. Attached are photos that I took of the trip while chasing it. They probably won't help much as not much of the train shows. I may have a flyer for that trip, but can't get to it until later today.
