USA Trains, MTH, Lionel, Bachmann, and others have stretched the bounds of
their Artistic Licenses with bogus CB&Q equipment.

There were a few non-standard CB&Q paint jobs (Lincoln Friendship Train
XM32, Aluminum panel twin hopper (don't recall the class at the moment), and
the soon-changed Orange NE-12s) but nothing with the "Blackbird" paint
job..or for that matter the "Chinese Red" diesel paint job..except switchers
and hood units in the former and freight hood units for the latter. Even
the FW&D got their hands slapped for doing a NW in the Chinese Red freight
diesel scheme!! I think it was Hol that documented a NE12 that was
(partially?) wreck-repainted with "Greyback" Imitation Aluminum grey/white
paint done by another railroad. But the CB&Q was pretty tight on
application of lettering and paint, at least in comparison to some other
railroads like the Rock Island who it seemed used the local hardware store
for paint and left it up to each shop as to how they were going to apply
it...

Bill,

I've never seen an actual car that looked like that I'm afraid.

I like to acquire CB&Q cars & locos for my garden railroad. A company
called USA Trains sells a 40 foot Steel plug door box car pained in black
with all white lettering. Here is a link to the Ebay photo.

It has the large billboard style "Burlington" on left of the door above the
reporting marks, and the color box herald on the right, and the stylized Way
of the Zephyrs on the right as well. not sure if the Everywhere WEst is on
the other side.

The question is did the Q ever really do this paint scheme and if so was
there a special reason for it?

Thanks, Bill
