These kind of lamps used to be common in Europe too, and could be found up until around the 50s I would say. In my last village you could still find the old housing for the windless and some conduit, that was used to raise and lower these lamps to change the bulbs. Still might be some somewhere. Almost all the electricity is run underground anymore here. So when they did away with electric poles they did away with these kind of lamps here. I know I seen some pictures of Sesser and there were street lamps similar hung up over the street. |
