I remember as a kid in York NE standing out in our backyard watching freight trains going through town and counting how many roller bearing cars we could spot. Wasn't too many in 1949-195? After a while we stopped and started counting hotbox bearing (friction) cars....

As far as I know, the first roller bearing cars on the Q were the last ten class HT-10 70 ton hopper cars built in 1949. They were painted orange to differentiate them. They had "roller bearing packs" in conventional Bettendorf truck frames.
