The only railroad in a river valley around Superior was the CBQ west of 
Superior.  The CBQ east and north of Superior, the CNW, the MP, the ATSF 
and the Nebraska--Kansas were all built on interfluves.  Richard Kistler 
has provided a detailed answer to Dick Haave's question.   Norm Metcalf,
