Jan: The X1787 in 1955's number boards just means it was operated as a helper engine (Cajon?) placed ahead of the road power for the train, which was SP 1787, and thus it was identified with the train's designation. The numbers were easily changed, and the 1955 will get its own number back -- or the number of another engine it is helping -- before its next run. Can't see what 1907's board says. Cheers! Jan On 3/6/2014 1:42 AM, Kenneth Martin wrote: Jan, That is the train number not the locomotive number. The "X" stands for an extra. Ken Martin Sacramento where I get too much SP. On Mar 5, 2014, at 10:20 PM, Jan Kohl wrote: LOL...good one, Ken...I was hoping it would stump some people a little longer than that! The other thing I found interesting was that 1955 has a different number on the number board than it's Q number...presumably because it duplicates an SP engine? Cheers! Jan |
