Randy,
What made it last so long is that it was built of California Redwood staves at least 5 inches thick. I had a piece for years when the demolished it. The stuff seems to never rot. Also the tank was the first water stop west of Lincoln on the Aliance Div. so it had to be well maintained. I think that helped in it's preservation. I may be wrong about it being original, but all the photos I have seen shows it in the original spot. They replaced the wood underframe with steel in the 1920's?? at the same time they built the street overpass by my home in York.

I am impressed that the early tank survived so long. There is a
picture in the Schuyler 125th anniversary book that shows a later
CB&Q-style tank being erected next to the earlier B&MRRRinNeb (I just
love typing that...) in 1890.
