-----Original Message----- From: Chuck Spinner [mailto:spinlake@yahoo.com] Sent: Monday, February 17, 2014 3:54 PM To: undisclosed recipients: Subject: Upcoming Naperville train memorial Hi, This email is going out to about 50 people. Some of you are or have been Naperville residents; others are friends or family of the victims of the 1946 Naperville train wreck; some of you I've had the pleasure of meeting along my book tour; while others are librarians and/or historians who helped me in some way during the research for my book, The Tragedy at the Loomis Street Crossing. Thought you'd want to know that a wonderful memorial to the victims and to those rescue workers at the crash site is being created and will be dedicated on Saturday, April 26th, at 1pm at the Naperville train station! There will be a sculpture of three figures - a Kroehler worker, a sailor, and an injured woman passenger. The awesome thing is that the figures will be made out of hundreds of railroad spikes! There will be two plaques - one with a list of the victims and the other a brief description of the train wreck and the purpose of the memorial. And there will be an eight minute audio portion of the memorial! That same Saturday morning at 10am, at Saint Peter and Paul Parish Hall (36 North Ellsworth Street, Naperville, Ill. 60540) I will be giving a power point presentation about the train wreck. You are all invited and I think you will enjoy the presentation. I will have a book signing afterwards. I believe that there will be a number of friends and family of the victims present for the talk. Hope to see many of you there for both the presentation at the hall and for, certainly, the dedication of the memorial. The parish hall is just three blocks south of the train station. Please spread the word. Take care, Chuck |
