Looking at EarthExplorer site (uses Google Imagery) it does look like it could be Thayer, IA.  Looking at street view, there is a building on 3rd Ave that still has rails running into the "garage" portion, looks to be about 60-70 feet to the south of the main.  Doesn't look like anything in the photograph in question though.

Certainly possible that it's not Thayer, Iowa, but maybe Thayer, Missouri, just above the Arkansas line in the southeastern part of the state -- and obviously not on the Q.  The locomotive, seen from the front, does have a Q appearance, however, but I don't know what the Thayer, Iowa, depot looked like in the early 20th century.  The same seller is also offering another photo with a wrecked Q Palace stock car visible that the seller believes might be on another railroad.

At least three demolished stock cars (two marked CB&Q) in foreground. Looks like workers are removing dead livestock. Can't really identify the locomotive. Also, another locomotive in far background with "light colored" smoke box front. Was there a Thayer (MO or KS) on the Q? If not, then a wreck on another railroad involving Q stock cars.

Here's another photo of a depot (this one at Thayer, Iowa, well into the 20th century) that appears to have a two-tone paint job.
