Thanks for looking, Leo. My sympathies. I had too many trips with unsteady Teddy. And he was always worse eastbound after the layover if you know what I mean. Everything about a Uboat was awful - starting with the near vertical climb with a grip. And the weird throttle, the acceleration like a turtle, the ride.....

Doug,

I dug out the time books.............yes we sure had those pieces of xxxx on the C&I

2/20/13-5413 a U25B on #182
2/25/73-5450/5465 both U 28Bs on 181. That had to be a wonderful trip
3/13/73-5475 a U 30b on #98
3/29/73-5422 a U 25B along with 2523 a GP 35 on #98. Imagine the transition between those two units ! Condr Colgan and Eng Cox. Need I say more ?

Karl, Leo - we certainly had those awful U-boats on the C and I. Were they later models than what is being asked about? Doug

Tom,

The 1990 paperback book The "Q" from the North Western Illinois Chapter of the NRHS has a picture from Mike Schafer showing U-28Cs on a train at Stratford in February 1970.
