Noel,

Unit 9962C was one of the three California Zephyr F3 consists (9960 ABC, 9961 ABC, and 9962 ABC). All of the E units had either no suffix, or A or B. None carried  a " C " designation. By 1956, the F3 CZ units probably would have been re geared for freight service and painted in the freight paint scheme.

Pete,
Sounds like 9962C was a E8 unit ? Don't have my dismal book handy.
Well you did make a flying trip in the middle of the night so I didn't
hear you. Probably heard you, but went right back to sleep. I remember
lots of troop movements during the Korean War. I was in the 4th grade
then. Also lots of summer movement of NG troop trains.
Noel
